What is Tresorit?
Tresorit is a cloud-based file exchange and collaboration platform designed around privacy, governance, and data protection. Built on a zero-knowledge architecture, the software encrypts all files directly on the user's local device prior to cloud transmission. Decryption keys remain exclusively with the file owner and designated recipients, ensuring that unauthorized parties, external entities, and the service provider itself cannot inspect stored or transferred files. The platform aims to unite corporate document management, team workflows, and external file distribution within a unified, security-focused system.
To address regional regulatory demands and data sovereignty policies, the infrastructure allows organizations to select specific geographic locations for data storage, including options within the European Union, the United States, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, among twelve global regions. Security measures rely on client-side encryption, non-convergent cryptography, and client-side integrity validation. Administrators maintain centralized governance through policy controls, device monitoring, auditing logs, and capabilities for initiating local or remote device wipes when security incidents arise.
Beyond basic cloud storage, the system provides dedicated external collaboration tools through virtual data rooms known as Tresorit Engage. These isolated workspaces allow businesses to establish structured project environments using customizable templates. Within these environments, participants can handle bulk file uploads, manage document drafts, track assigned tasks, leave comments, and collect legally compliant digital signatures through integrated eSignature capabilities. Shared files and external links can be further secured with expiration dates, mandatory access passwords, dynamic watermarking, and download restrictions.
The platform operates alongside existing productivity environments and identity systems to streamline organizational administration. Integration with identity providers such as Azure Active Directory, Okta, and Google enables Single Sign-On and automated user provisioning through SCIM protocols. Desktop and mobile applications deploy silently across hybrid workforces without requiring end-user training. Additional integrations connect the system directly with email clients like Microsoft Outlook and web browsers using Gmail extensions, as well as security platforms like Microsoft Sentinel for centralized event monitoring.
Designed to help organizations meet stringent international standards, the software supports compliance frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, NIS2, DORA, FINRA, and ISO certification. Administrators can enforce uniform sharing policies across all departments, customize the platform's visual appearance with corporate branding, and oversee file lifecycles across internal teams and external stakeholders.
