What is Hive?
Hive is a project management and work management platform that combines project planning, task tracking, automated workflows, team collaboration, reporting, customer relationship management, and financial operations into a workspace. Developed over 10 years, the platform incorporates artificial intelligence tools designed to help organizational teams automate routine management processes and focus on project execution.
Teams can organize, filter, and view their initiatives through various project views such as Gantt charts, Kanban boards, calendars, tables, lists, timelines, portfolio grids, and consolidated summary views. Work items are structured around action cards where team members can assign responsibility, set due dates, tag colleagues, attach documents, add custom fields, set priority levels, and leave context-rich comments. Incoming work can be gathered systematically through custom form intakes that automatically generate actions or entire projects.
Hive incorporates artificial intelligence across operational workflows via its native assistant, Buzz, and the meeting assistant, Sidekick. Buzz can construct complete project structures with assigned owners and dates directly from text descriptions, analyze incoming service requests, draft email responses within Hive Mail, and build automated multi-step workflows. During live virtual video calls, Sidekick records automated meeting transcripts, generates coaching feedback, captures action items, and writes notes directly into the workspace.
The application provides collaborative environments like Hive Notes, where team members can write and format meeting documentation together in real time using slash commands. For creative and asset management workflows, visual proofing tools allow teams to annotate documents, images, video files, and web pages, while Buzz checks proofs for layout consistency, brand rules, and factual claims. Time management features enable users to track hours on task cards, transfer time into timesheets, view team availability, monitor billable time, and flow hours directly into worksheets and client invoices through Hive Finance.
Workspace security is maintained through isolated workspace boundaries, progressive user authentication, validated access controls, and rate-limiting against unauthorized access. Network interactions are encrypted using 256-bit Secured Socket Layer protocols, and external resources accessed via URI links expire after 60 minutes. Hive operates with ISO 27001 accredited hosting and holds SOC2 certification. Regarding artificial intelligence, Hive maintains zero data retention and zero model training policies, meaning user data and conversations with Buzz are never stored by third-party language model providers or used to train external models.
Hive graduated from the AngelPad accelerator in 2015 and raised seed funding in 2016 followed by additional seed funding in 2017. The platform secured Series A funding in 2019 led by Comcast Ventures and received an investment from Zoom's Apps Fund in 2021. In 2022, Hive acquired the SquidHub project management platform to support European customers. The company introduced workspace Dashboards in 2024 and launched Buzz AI in 2025 to embed artificial intelligence directly across project and workflow management.
